Happy Birthday Ethan AND Owen!

So we have had a lot going on in the Davidson household the past couple weeks. A new baby, a big birthday, visits from Grandparents and lots of fun!

Let’s start back a couple of weeks ago. On March 1 I started having contractions. We went out to eat and they seemed to get stronger and stronger throughout dinner. So when we got home we decided to have a friend come over and stay with Ethan for the night and go into labor and delivery. We thought this was it! When we went in, I wasn’t as progressed as they would have liked, so they had me walk around for an hour. When I got to the hospital, the contractions were every 2-3 minutes apart and really strong. By the time I finished walking, I hadn’t progressed much and the contractions were every 4-5 minutes apart and not nearly as strong. We made the decision to go home instead of walking more. Needless to say we were very disappointed. I really thought I was going to have the baby! The nurse thought that I would have the baby in the next 24 hours, but I wasn’t so sure. I think I may have been dehydrated.

On Wednesday I had my Dr appt and had her strip my membranes in hopes of getting things going. That night I woke up with contractions at 2:30am and couldn’t sleep though them anymore by 3:30 so I got up and walked around. They were every 2-3 minutes apart again, but I didn’t want to go in unless I was sure this was the real thing this time. I woke Jason up at 4:30 and told him what was going on. I took a shower and kept timing the contractions. Around 6, they started getting further apart (but still very intense) so I had a snack and watched a little TV, and tried to relax. At 7:30 Ethan woke up and we decided we should probably go in and get checked out. We dropped Ethan off at my wonderful visiting teacher’s house and got to the hospital at 9:30. I was a little worried because the contractions were about 5 minutes apart by then, but the nurse said I was dilated to a 5 so they would keep me! We were VERY excited by that news. I had decided several months ago I was going to have a natural labor and delivery this time around, so I decided to labor in the jetted tub for awhile and that was wonderful! I would highly recommend it. The Dr came in around 1:30 and broke my water and that’s when things started getting really intense. A little after two it was time to push and after two pushes, Owen was out! I’ll tell you what, natural childbirth was quite the experience. I honestly felt like up until the last 45 minutes or so it really wasn’t that difficult (but that last 45 minutes and pushing about did me in! ) Jason was a great coach and I was lucky to have him by my side through it all. Would I do it again naturally? Not sure. Now that I have done it both with an epidural and naturally I’m not sure how I will do it next time. Although it is pretty neat to say I did It 100% drug free (I didn’t even have my IV hooked up). And the recovery has been SOOO easy this time around. It has been wonderful!
So here are the stats for ya:

Owen John Davidson
March 4, 2010
7lbs 9oz
21 ¾ inches long
2:11pm

And Owen is an absolutely wonderful baby who is as sweet as can be. I thought Ethan was the perfect baby, but Owen just might have him beat. The only time I have heard him cry was right when he was born. He just squeaks, and grunts, but never cries. He has blond hair and I think his eyes will be blue. At his Dr appt last week he was at 7lbs 8oz which I was thrilled about because it took Ethan awhile to get back up to his birth weight after he was born. He eats every 2 hours like Ethan did, so I have a feeling he will chunk up just like Ethan did real quick. My only complaint about Owen is that he wasn’t born sleeping through the night (that’s not too much to ask is it). The waking up every 2-3 hours gets old pretty quick. Hopefully he will be like Ethan and start sleeping through the night by 2 months (fingers crossed.)

Ethan had more fun playing with the remoste that controlled the blinds than seeing Owen! :)

And now the update on our newly terrible two-year old. Happy Birthday Ethan! I was so excited Owen came early so the boys wouldn’t have to share a birthday. Ethan had soo much fun playing with Grandma and Grandpa Davidson for the week after Owen was born. They left the afternoon of his birthday and Grandmama Brittner came that night. Getting to see both grandparents? Can you say spoiled? For his birthday we got him a happy meal at McDonalds and made him an awesome fire truck cake. We opened all his presents (playdough, art supplies, cars, bubbles, UP, books, and much more!) and played with them. He was so happy! It was very cute. It is hard to believe that Ethan is already two. Some of the fun things about him right now are:

Ethan spends hours every day moving things from one place to another. He sorts, organizes, plays and reorganizes. In the past it has been silverware, and now it is his cars and a collection of unsharpened pencils

Ethan is a super picky eater. We aren’t sure what happened. As soon as he hit 18 months he refuses to eat all the things he used to. He lives on hardly anything, but I know he’s not hungry, because he is really good at telling me when he is. And this boy loves sweets. Cookies, candy, ice cream. He loves it all.

Ethan’s favorite movie is “UP” which he got for his birthday.

Ethan eats a popsicle and reads stories with mommy every day.

Ethan got a remote control dinosaur for his birthday which he loves, but he refuses to be on the ground when it is turned on, he has to be on the couch because he thinks it might eat him.

Ethan still doesn’t have a huge vocabulary, but he still talks plenty! Slowly he is adding more words and when all else fails when he tries to get us to understand him he just says “please” over and over.

Making the cake!

Grandmama Brittner and Owen!

Jason and I feel so blessed to have two wonderful sons to watch grow up. They are so much fun and although being a parent is challenging and exhausting, we are loving every minute of it!

January, December, November..in that order.

Okay well don't you just love how blogger uploads all your pictures in reverse order? So instead of spending an hour trying to get ALL my pictures to go in chronological order..I've decided to start with the recent things and work my way backward in time. (Maybe if I were to update more than once in a blue moon I wouldn't have such an issue!) So here we go:

Of course most of the pictures and posting will have to do with this little guy: Our soon-to-be-big brother! Ethan is getting bigger and bigger everyday..and is defintely becoming more and more independent. He has already entered the "I can do it myself" stage..which is an adventure!

But we sure love him...messes and all!!
Ethan has the weirdest obsession with (no it's not Elmo or Yo Gabba Gabba or anything your typical almost two year old would have). It is with silverware. Forks, knives and spoons. He has more fun playing with those than he did with any toy we got him for Christmas! He carries it everywhere..the shower, his bed, the car..where ever we let him! Funny boy!
He got this snazzy vest for Christmas..cute huh?

My sister Jamie was able to come up for the MLK long weekend and we had a lot of fun! We went shopping, couponing, scrapbooked, cooked, and made cookies! Although Ethan's idea of frosting cookies was to dip his fingers in all the frosting and eat it..mmm sugar!

Ethan loves Auntie Jamie!

Let's see..this is about 32.5 weeks pregnant..and yes I have gotten a lot bigger since then. I'm 34 weeks now..and hoping this baby boy decides to come a little early! I don't want to build myself up for disappointment, but I can still dream, right? :)

So January 4th Jason had his birthday. We celebrated it the weekend before in Burley with his parents, and his sister and family (lots of cousins that Ethan had fun with!). Jason's mom and I made his favorite dessert- trifold. Yum! On Jason's actual birthday I got us some takeout and we watched Boise State play in the Fiesta Bowl, of course!

So far this winter we haven't had much snow (which is typical for Boise). We had about two days when it snowed about 5 inches. Ethan wanted to help Daddy shovel the snow..Brr!

And now onto Christmas in California. We drove there, and thanks to a DVD player and the movie "Up" it went great! Sometimes it seems easier to drive 9 hours than it does just to drive down to Walmart and back!

My mom and me!
Okay I can't get this one to flip on blogger...so tilt your head a little to one side..and you will see Ethan eating his first Slurpee! He LOVED it.. (although I knew he would!)

Jamie and me!

The trip to Cali would not have been complete without a trip to Chuck E Cheese. Ethan was finally old enough to enjoy it!

Popcorn and story time with Aunties = Heaven to Ethan!

We were able to go visit my Aunt in Pacifica one afternoon. We had plans to stop by the beach afterwards, but the rain changed our mind. Instead we admired it from our warm car! Maybe this summer instead?
My grandma and me looking through my scrapbooks.

Bubba and Grandmama!

Ethan's Auntie Jodie was SUCH a good babysitter (as were all his Aunties). Ethan sure loved spending time with all of them!

Christmas morning! Ethan got a super fun Radio Flyer car which he loves to ride in! We can't wait until it gets warmer so we can take it on walks to the park everyday.

And now rewind a little to Dec 6th..my birthday dinner at Chili's:

Mmm.. ROOT beer..Ethan's favorite!

If Ethan is in the mood to talk on the phone..watch out! He will have a full on conversation with you. He will talk, wait for you to respond, talk, etc. So cute! His Grandma's love talking to him!

Of course Dunder climbed our Christmas tree..luckily she didn't knock it over this year!

And rewind a little more to our Thanksgiving in Burley:

Ethan loves Grandma and Grandpa Davidson!

Ethan loves drinks (sometimes I feel like this child lives on a liquid diet). Here we are at an indoor playground with a slushee..yummy!

Daddy and Ethan hanging out (probably watching Daddy's favorite, Arizona basketball, or Ethan's favorite, Little Bear!)

So sometime in November I gave Ethan a spoon and a yogurt and he did great! He is WONDERFUL at using a fork and a spoon exclusivly. It seems like he has been doing this forever, but really it's only been since November or so (3 or so months seems like forever ago!)

And now we are just kind of waiting for baby! I've been stocking up on baby wipes and tiny diapers, working on blankets and burp rags for him, and getting more and more uncomfortable everyday! I am VERY excited to meet this little guy and be able to get my body somewhat back to normal, but at the same time I am enjoying our last few weeks of having a real routine (and sleep!) I've decided to have this baby naturally, and I am super excited to do it! I know it will be an amazing/difficult experience.

Until next time...
